The zokk bird is a large, predatory and flightless bird native to the northern parts of Hem'Im, aswell as the southwestern parts of the Entyg Plains. Its' large beak is heavily crooked by the tip, making for a brutal weapon for shredding both prey and other enemies. It has a fairly long neck connected to the round body. The zokk bird's feathers are usually of a light color, ranging from light blue to light green. When seeking a mate, females are often attracted to the males with the most metallic colors.
Despite being flightless, the zokk still has rather strong wings which it uses to punch foes attacking it from the sides. The long, flexible neck also helps it defend itself against other predators, as one successful bite from the beak can completely incapacitate a foe. When faced with a far greater force, however, the zokk bird prefers to flee, the powerful legs carrying it out of harm's way very quickly.
Zokk birds mate when the sun shines the strongest, often gathering in large packs of hundreds where the males show off their feathers, and fight for dominancy. Sabotage within the male group is common, where some males run around, ripping off feathers from other competing males with it's beak before running off. A female zokk, most of which are of dull, yellow shades, normally lays 6-10 eggs, which have a orange and white camoflage pattern. They take about 15 weeks to hatch, after which a newborn chick emerges. Zokk chicks are very competative when it comes to food, as the mother does not feed them individually. Instead, she drops food into the nest and lets the chicks split it up as they see fit. This behaviour is imprinted on the zokk birds and carried with them through the rest of their lives. When a prey has been taken down, no mercy is shown to the rest of the group.
Zokk groups normally consist of a three generation family, thus including about 15 – 30 individuals. The birds normally live for about six years, though some studied specimen have been shown to survive for over 15.
The animal is sometimes captured and raised as a hunting or battle companion, though they are very unreliable. Stealing the eggs makes for a very secure way of taming the beasts, though this is an extremely risky operation. The entire zokk family will defend the eggs if they are threatened.
